USB-based device offers secure network connection
Vasco Data International has produced a portable USB-based personal smart card reader that will generate digital signatures, one-time passwords or PKI identifiers.
The Digipass 855 device can be used both in a connected and unconnected mode to generate any type of challenge-response based authentication codes.
The unit is intended for high security corporate network access, or as a means of providing strong authentication for internet or telephone banking and e-commerce
In unconnected mode, Europay-Mastercard-Visa chip authentication can be combined with any customised application and in USB-connected mode, the device can handle PIN entry, PIN change, signature as well as connected EMV authentication, the vendor said.
Because the PIN is entered directly on the reader and not on the computer keyboard the PIN is never available on a PC platform and so remains secure.
