A software update fixing the issue is now available via MyTomTom
TomTom navigation device TomTom said a number of its satellite navigation devices have been interrupted due to a 'leap year' bug in the software of the GPS receiver provided by a third party.
The issue, which first surfaced on March 31, affected TomTom's sat-nav devices globally, as users in the UK, Mexico, Italy, Australia, Switzerland and Denmark reported that they could not receive a GPS signal.
Potentially affected navigation devices were Start 20/25, Via 120/125, Via LIVE 120/125, GO LIVE 820/825, GO LIVE 1000/1005/1005 World.
A software update for fixing the issue is now available via MyTomTom, according to the company.
"We have identified the root cause for some of our products not obtaining a GPS position. We're working on a fix and will provide a further update as soon as we know more," the company said.
The company asked users to connect their navigation device to the computer and switch on the MyTomTom software to download the latest update.
TomTom said customers should reset their devices by holding the on/off button down for at least 20 seconds, until the device starts.
