Check Point unveils new browser security service

CBR Staff Writer Published 08 June 2009

Helps diverting users away from malicious web sites

Check Point Software has released a new virtualised browser security service, ZoneAlarm ForceField, to protect consumers against Gumblar, a web attack that compromises websites and downloads malware onto unsuspecting computers.

The company said that ZoneAlarm ForceField places a security around the browser to catch and neutralise malicious web browser downloads. Its ForceField sandbox is designed to prevent the unwanted malware from damaging a user's PCs or accessing any information residing on a targeted machine.

In addition, the company claimed that ForceField also includes security layers that augment its virtualisation capability, such as heuristic anti-phishing and site ratings, designed to analyse websites, and if malicious, warn the user not to download anything from the site or to enter personal information.

Ben Khoushy, vice president of endpoint products at Check Point, said: “We are witnessing a tremendous increase in web browser-based attacks such as Gumblar, which traditional security products are not able to defend against. Our ZoneAlarm ForceField virtualised browser security solution provides additional layers of protection and helps divert users away from malicious web sites, delivering the security needed to stop such sophisticated attacks.”

Gumblar, so far, targets users of Internet Explorer and Google search, delivering malware through compromised sites to infect a user’s PC and subsequently intercept traffic between the user and the visited sites.
