Trend Micro predicts that Android threats will reach one million in 2013.
Android devices were targeted five times more than Windows-based personal computers by Malware during 2012, according to a report from Trend Micro.
The security software firm revealed that about 350,000 threats were found on the Android mobile platform during the year, while only a fifth of Android device users have installed a security app.
The firm has also flagged other issues, including the risk of social media sites on enterprises in addition to data breaches and attacks on Oracle's Java platform.
Additionally, enterprises and organisations were affected by data breaches and targeted attacks at an alarming rate.
Trend Micro security research vice president, Rik Ferguson, told IT Pro that end users should also be on their guard against the threat posed by other connected devices.
"With the advent of IPv6 opening up the available address space and the rise of the smart device, we can expect to see many more [electronic appliances] being brought online," Ferguson said.
